Creating a Blood Effect by JamesRushforth Creating a Blood Effect by JamesRushforth
To view this tutorial it needs to be downloaded.

This tutorial is designed to compliment my Blood Brush Pack and takes you through creating a blood effect step by step. The tutorial will work equally well with other blood brushes and custom shapes if the correct texture is applied.

The tutorial is designed primarily for those relatively new to PS though more advanced users may find it helpful.

Again crediting is not required (though its always nice to see how the tutorial came in useful and any links to work done using it will at the very least earn you a comment). I only ask that if you find the tutorial useful please add a :+fav: (favourite), it makes all the hard work worthwhile and helps others to benefit from the resource.

Enjoy :D

sphinxfalcon Featured By Owner Apr 16, 2010
wonderful! I would also recommend adding a 10% shadow burn after the final red adjustment. it really gives the glutinous red effect.

Okay, so I managed to get the blood effect, but I turned the entire picture dark and pink!! *laughs*
I did work on a new layer, so I could use the eraser to remove most of it, but still, the areas around the blood is a bit pink-ish... I'm not sure how to just work on the layer with the blood...

Fernerfando Featured By Owner Jul 7, 2009  Student Traditional Artist
thank you so much, this helped so much. However, I can't seem to apply these settings to just one brush, how do i do that? I mean I can't just apply it to just one brush without it happening to the whole page.
Zeroslav Featured By Owner May 29, 2009
The brushes are bitchin' by the way.
Zeroslav Featured By Owner May 29, 2009
How would I go about getting the same effect, but with a png, so as to have a transparent background?
extremepacman Featured By Owner May 18, 2009  Student Traditional Artist
Doesn't work so well on some backgrounds. I was using a black background and it didn't show up, so I had to compensate with a different method (though it was still pretty similar).

Thanks anyway, gave me a good idea of what to do when improvising my own method.

Hey, I have a question....
I'm not to sure what happened but it used to be where I took out the brush and I saw a little outline of the brush before I clikced it down. Now, all I see is this little cross and when I click down I see the brush. How do I get it to where I can see the outline of the brush before I click it down? I have Photoshop Elements 7 by the should be the same for all PS though
ClydeArk Featured By Owner Mar 14, 2009  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Theres no problem, you just have to resize the brush.

The crosshair is just the center of the whole brush, and when thats the only thing visible that means that the brush stretches out farther than your canvas does.

Just make the brush smaller until desired size.

Thanks for the tutorial! ^^

Hmm, when I try to create, another blood effect using a different brush, in a different layer, the new colour balance layer affects the old effect, so I have one normal colour blood stain, and one totaly off. How can I have the colour balance layer only affect certain layers?
xxpunkettexx Featured By Owner Nov 5, 2008
i had the same issue. what i did was i took the brush and changed the mode to "multiply" and changed the color to red and stamped directly back over where i had before. presto..turned out alright for me! =]

'gah! Awesome!
Thank you! (I was lookin' for a solution to the same issue- I'm rather fresh to Photoshop)
