A perfect day in the Hohe Tauern National Park, Austria.
The sky is 6 photos taken with a tripod merged with HDR Pro. When merged I allowed ghosting to get the moving effect. After that touched up in PS to remove the noise that ghosting produces and to soften the clouds. The rest of the image is a short exposure shot, the settings can be seen below.
Austria happens to be one of my favourite countries on Earth to visit...and this photo clearly illustrates why...
Originality: I've given it a high rating on this as it really stood out due to the contrasts between the moving sky and still landscape. A good take on a beautiful scene.
Technique: The way this was composed is really nice. The feature that really struck me was the blurring of the clouds that seems to convey motion, in contrast to the tranquillity of the landscape below it. The capture of the reflections in the water is also superb.
Impact: I really like the setting, the photo has definitely done justice to it. It is the variations between the parts of the photo that really made it for me.
Thanks very much. No I didn't. The G12 does have a built in ND filter but it's not as good as a real one on an SLR. You wouldn't be able to get a long enough shutter speed with it. I 'cheated' and used a series of merged photos to create the moving sky effect. One day I'll be able to afford an SLR
great post-work in that case! i was wondering why the clouds reflected in the water, and why the water itself, wasn't blurred by long-exposure. what as your post-processing technique to blur multiple exposures of the sky?
